June Athlete of the Month Christina Flynn

Published June 1, 2020

The staff at Bion has voted and winning Athlete of the Month for June 2020 is one of my favorite Air Force Officers, Major Christina Flynn. A 5-year member Christina is one of the most humble, friendly, and dedicated members we have. As a coach, when you see she is in your class it makes you happy because she is always coachable, kind to other members, and easy-going. On top of being a great role model for her family and friends, she has also been serving our country for 14 years which shows how selfless of a person she really is.
You truly are an admirable person Christina and we can't thank you enough for all that you do to make Bion a better place!
Below is a Q&A I had with Christina. Enjoy!
1. How long have you been CrossFitting now, and what you got you started?
I joined Bion in June 2015 so it's my 5 year anniversary at the gym! I started doing CrossFit in a tent in Afghanistan in 2014. We didn't have coaches or adequate equipment so when I joined Bion after my deployment it was a whole new world. There is no other place like Bion and the family that I have made over the past 5 years.  Kory and the coaches create such an amazing and supportive community for athletes at every level.
2. Best cheat meal?
PIZZA! My go-to is Whole Foods meat lovers or Sauce... follow it up with a chocolate chip cookie.

3.  Dream vacation?
Road trip through New Zealand.
4. If you could walk in somebody else shoes for one day who would it be?
As I watch the launch of Space X today, I would have to say Douglas Hurley or Robert Behnken and fly to the International Space Station.
5.  Did you play sports growing up?
I played soccer growing up and joined the golf team in high school.
6. How has physical fitness helped you in everyday life?
I train 100+ cadets and it feels good to be able to keep up with 18-22-year-olds during physical fitness training.
7. What do you do for a career and what got you interested in that field?
I have been in the Air Force for 14 years. My job for the past three years has been teaching leadership studies to Air Force ROTC cadets at the University of Arizona.  I'm heading to Germany in July to start a new job.
8. Favorite book of all time?
Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink - It reiterates the importance of taking responsibility for your decisions and ensuring the success of the people around you.
9. Fitness goals for 2020?
Improve running speed and increase lower body strength.

10. You get to make up a workout named after you. What would it be?
15 min AMRAP, 10 Deadlifts, 10 Bar Facing Burpees, 12 Calorie Row
