Welcoming Coach Tim Riordan to the team!

  • Q: Let’s get right to it Tim, the most important question members of Bion would like to know, what kind of music can we expect to hear when you coach a class?
A: I like to play all kinds of upbeat music, as long as it pumps you up to work out! This includes EDM, hip-hop, heavy rock, Toto’s Africa, Dancing Queen by ABBA, Madonna’s Into the Groove etc. You know, the usual.
Q: When a member requests to hear Taylor Swift, how will you handle that?
A: Good question. Are we talking about Fearless and Red Taylor, or “I’m a bad girl” phase Reputation Taylor? Let’s just say I have been known on occasion to be feeling 22.
Q: Tell us about some of your qualifications?
A: I got my Level 1 in 2014 and Level 2 in 2016. Over the past five years I have taught thousands of group classes, put on seminars and competitions, and worked at a CrossFit gym full time.
Q: What was it about Bion that attracted you to wanting to join the team of coaching professionals?
A: I’ve always known in my gut I wanted to work at this gym. Bion has a reputation of a killer staff of coaches and an awesome community and I can’t wait to be a part of that. The amazing views outside the back yard certainly help as well!
Q: Best superhero of all time?
A: This is the toughest question of the bunch! I grew up a Batman kid (the theme of many birthday parties) but in recent years with the rise of the MCU, I might put Ironman at the top! My mom comes in a close second.
Q: Why do you love coaching?
A: I love helping and connecting with people! There is nothing greater than seeing the spark when someone gets their first box jump or the elation of a lifting PR, and helping people empower themselves to be stronger and more confident is the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had. I also cherish the relationships I have made coaching, my clients have certainly made me a better person.
    Q: Favorite CrossFit Workout?
A: Diane! 21-15-9 Deadlifts and Handstand Push-ups. Rest Day Sunday is another favorite of mine.
Q: Are you from Tucson? I have lived in Tucson my entire life. I grew up in Vail by Saguaro National Monument and went to high school at Cienega!
Q: What are your personal fitness goals?
A: In the immediate future I am competing in an Olympic Weightlifting meet, my goal is to make a 220kg total. Outside of that I enjoy working on skills so I would like to increase my capacity in more advanced gymnastics, like 30 seconds freestanding handstand and a 40 foot handstand walk.
    Q: Burpees or Wall Balls?
A: Oh Wall Balls every time! I’ve come to an understanding with Burpees in recent time but I can never forgive the years of abuse.
